SUNDAY 16TH  – SUNDAY 17TH JUNE 2017

Two days following the footsteps of Mr.  Baron  Kaspar Jodock von Sockalper, on the path refurbished in the 600 to develop the trade between Vallese and Italy: “Le Roi du Simplon”. More than historical relevance, the path runs through landscapes of rare beauty. Starting from Gondo, straight across Switzerland’s boder, we’ll admire  breathtaking gorges and unforgettable villages. We’ll cross  Simplon Pass and we’ll go down to Briga waiting to appreciate the monumental baroque Stockalper Palace. Our accomodation will be at the Simplon Hospizs helded by the Congregation of the “Canons of St. Bernard”.

ITINERARY

Saturday 10th June: Gondo – Passo del Sempione

START: Gondo  8:00 am. MAP   Crossing the  river Diveria’s gorges, through military fortifications, reaching Simplon Dorf village. Gorgeus  landscapes on the way reaching Walser settlements,   pastures and peat bogs. Following the ancient napoleonic path we’ll finally reach the Simplon Hospizs and the Simplon Pass  (2000m.).

uphill: 1300 m. – 5 hours

Sunday 11th June: Simplon Pass   – Brig

Wake up at  sunrise to get ready for a long downhill walk. Along the path beautiful point of views on Rodano Valley and Oberland mountains. The route goes on along the valleys of Taferna river and Saltina river untill Brig town where we’ll admire the monumental baroque Stockalper Palace.  Reaching the train station , we’ll take famous Switzerland Postbus to go to Gondo, at the end of the trekking.

uphill: 350 m. – downhill: 1600 m. –  6 hours

The guide reserves the right to change the itinerary according to the conditions of the mountain or the phisical conditions of the partecipants.

Lothing and equipment: good sturdy walking shoes are necessary (we do not recommend using new shoes, that could hurt!) Clothing should be comfortable, warm or cool depending on the temperature. We advise dressing in layers (underwear T-shirt, longsleeved shirt, fleece) with technical material which dries quickly.  A good back pack is essential, a waterproof jacket, gloves and warm hat, sunglasses and crea, a water bottle, emergency food (some energy bars) and something to eat for lunch on the first day. Also do not forget the need for personal hygiene, wet vipes, a towel and a sheet bag. Telescopic trekking poles, headlamp, and gaiters are recommended.

Where it is: the trek start  8:00  a.m in Gondo. look at the MAPPA  This is 200 km far from Turin and 110 km far from Milan Malpensa.

VERY IMPORTANT:  identity document (passport) and healthcare insurance card are necessary to cross Switzerland border.
